This paper was delivered at the C-15 ICETE consultation in Antalya, Turkey in response to the conference theme 'The Impact of Theological Education'.  The paper considers two dimension of the instrumental impact seen through competence assessment and an intrinsic value assessment of theological education, the latter suggesting that a great value of theological education might indeed be in its uselessness.
