Theological education, an introduction to the ideas (2)

Author: Graham Cheesman
Date: December 15th, 2011
Key Words: Jesus, community, practical ministry, faith, spiritual formation, contextualisation

This paper outlines an approach to using the pattern of Jesus as he related to his disciples in order to inform our contemporary practice of theological education. It understands the hermeneutical difficulties but finds useful material in the way that training was conducted in a living community, that it was fundamentally for the strengthening of the faith of the disciples, in the way Jesus selected the disciples, how he used practical ministry experience and the contextual approach of Jesus. It originated in a lecture given to the Centre for theological education in Belfast in 2009.
